Fisheries have been a focus of ZMT’s research for decades, and ZMT scientists have studied fisheries systems in tropical regions worldwide. Through inter- and transdisciplinary fisheries perspectives, the institute and its partners have supported the sustainable use and co-management of living marine resources in regions where these are vital to local communities.
With the establishment of the institutional extension TropEcS, the institute is renewing its expertise in this field, connecting to the topics of Programme Area 1: Coastal Resources. Two new research working groups, led by senior scientists Dr Camilla Novaglio and Dr Stefan Koenigstein, will expand ZMT’s capacity to address the challenges and opportunities in tropical fisheries, using modern tools and modeling approaches.
In this seminar open to all ZMT, Camilla and Stefan will introduce their new working groups, presenting their approaches and opportunities for collaborations within ZMT and beyond.
