Abstract:
Biological invasions raise important challenges for biodiversity, ecosystem functioning, and management. In this talk, I will present how mathematical modeling can help describe and analyze different aspects of invasion dynamics. The presentation will discuss several modeling approaches, ranging from early-stage invasion processes to spatial spread and possible management strategies. Particular attention will be given to the role of spatial structure, demographic processes, and environmental heterogeneity in shaping invasion outcomes. I will also highlight how mathematical tools can provide useful indicators, such as invasion thresholds, persistence criteria, or control-oriented quantities, to support the understanding and management of invasive species.
