28/04/2023 | A different kind of "research trip": On 4 April 2023, visitors to the Klimahaus in Bremerhaven will have the opportunity to ask scientists from different institutes and universities about climate topics in the "Reise" exhibition area.
With short impulse talks and illustration material, the researchers will give an insight into the diversity and similarities of life in the different climate zones along the 8th degree of longitude at different travel stations. Between 11 a.m. and noon and from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., the scientists will be available to answer questions from interested members of the public at the "journey" stations.
Lisa Röpke and Dr Jonas Geburzi from the ZMT will also take part in the event. At the "Samoa" station Lisa Röpke will answer questions about tropical coral reefs, while at the "Cameroon" stop Dr Jonas Geburzi will share his knowledge about mangroves.
At the "Antarctica" station, Dr Ole Zeising from the Alfred Wegener Institute will explain the movement of the glaciers to visitors. Dr Stefan Wenau, Senior Scientist at the Fraunhofer - Institute for Wind Energy Systems IWES, will answer questions on the topic of "Offshore Wind" at the travel station "Bremerhaven".
In addition, other institutions and facilities at the Klimahaus Bremerhaven will be part of the "research trip" next Tuesday, such as the Centre for Marine Environmental Sciences at the University of Bremen, or MARUM for short, or the Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park Authority on site.
"As the Climate House, we are the interface between society and science when it comes to questions about climate, weather and climate change," explains Dr Neele Meyer, Science Communication Officer. "With this campaign, we also want to show that we are very well and broadly positioned in Bremerhaven and the surrounding area and can thus map research topics along the entire 8th degree of longitude."
Visitors can also look forward to the "mission sheet", a questionnaire which, if at least half of it is filled in, entitles them to take part in a competition, including the chance to win small prizes.
