21/06/2023 | The Bonn Climate Change Conference took place this year from June 5 to 15. It was dedicated to the preparation of the World Climate Conference (COP28), which will take place in Dubai in December, and prepared decisions to be adopted there. At the World Conference Center in Bonn, which is home to the UN Climate Secretariat, representatives from around the world spent ten days discussing the most pressing climate issues. More than 5,000 delegates from around the world gathered for the discussions.
On behalf of the ZMT, social scientist Dr. Marion Glaser participated in the conference. She had been nominated by the global sustainability science project Future Earth as a delegate with observer status for research NGOs. "For me, it was the first UN climate conference. I focused on equity, justice, and coastal and ocean issues and participated in a variety of events," she said. Among others, she was present at the meeting of the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice and the Subsidiary Body for the Implementation of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
The Bonn Conference is held each year in preparation for the next World Climate Conference. It primarily takes aim at the implementation to date of the 2015 Paris climate agreement, as well as the progress and failures in the fight against global warming. Other topics include the financing of climate protection and the energy transition as well as compensation for climate damage in developing countries.
