05/05/2021 | A new exhibition by the University of Bremen is showcasing 50 exemplary locations representing the close connections between the University of Bremen and institutions from the fields of science, culture, politics and business. ZMT, which has been a part of the science landscape in Bremen for 30 years, is one the places featured in the exhibition "WARUM (Why)? DARUM(That's why).
In 1991, the Centre for Tropical Marine Ecology (ZMT) was founded as an affiliated institute of the University of Bremen by Prof. Dr. Gotthilf Hempel, the founder of the Alfred Wegner Institute Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research. Thus, after Antarctica, the Arctic and the South Atlantic, a completely new region of the world – the tropical coasts – came into the focus of Bremen's marine sciences.
ZMT has been working together with the university for 30 years in joint professorships, collaborations in research as well as teaching – in the ISATEC - International Studies in Aquatic Tropical Ecology
study profile in the M.Sc. Marine Biology programme - and within the network of the U Bremen Research Alliance.
ZMT is one of the places where researchers, teachers and students are an important part of business, politics, administration, education or culture - and where ideas and cooperation with the university have brought about new things.
In March, the exhibition "Warum Darum was officialy opened". From March to August, the 50 locations featured in the exhibition will be unveiled. In October, an exhibition in the Lower Town Hall will bring all the locations together.
The first of these places is located directly in the Campus Park. Interested visitors can read a QR code from a four-by-four-metre sign and obtain further information. The second location was unveiled at the bremer shakespeare company (bsc) in Neustadt. The third was ZARM with ZMT next.
These places, institutions and companies are already involved in the exhibition (name in German):
