28.03.2018 | The application process is now open for the Joint Fellowship in Tropical Coastal Marine Research offered by the Centre for Science and Technology of the Non-Aligned and Other Developing Countries (NAM S&T Centre) and ZMT for the year 2018.

Young scientists from NAM S&T Centre’s member countries can apply for one of the five fellowships covering a three-month research stay at ZMT. The fellowship is funded by the NAM S&T Centre and ZMT. Only one scientist will be selected from any particular NAM S&T Centre member country.

This Fellowship scheme was initiated to foster the affiliation of scientists from NAM S&T Centre member states and ZMT. Selected fellows will be able to work with ZMT senior researchers and faculty members and strengthen their research skills in fields related to Ecology, Biogeochemistry, Geology, Theoretical Ecology and Modelling, Social Sciences and Tropical Coastal Marine Systems. There is also the possibility to undertake short-term joint research projects.

Applicants must hold at least a Master of Science (MSc) or equivalent degree and should be actively engaged in research and development.

Since the start of the programme in 2008 ZMT has hosted NAM Fellows amongst others from Indonesia, Tanzania, Indonesia, Mauritius, Malaysia, Myanmar Bangladesh, Colombia, Kenya, Vietnam, Iran, Nigeria, Gambia, Egypt, Jordan or India. Some of these fellowships have developed into research collaborations.

The deadline for submitting applications for the fellowship directly to the NAM S&T Centre is 8th June 2018.
