11/06/2021 | In cooperation with the IOI South Africa we are happy to announce the upcoming WIOGEN Ocean Governance Virtual Conference from October 27 – 29 2021. We aim to bring together leading academic scientists, researchers and policy makers to exchange their experiences and results on all aspects of Ocean Governance in the Western Indian Ocean. Apart from presenting state of the art and research findings it will also provide an interdisciplinary network platform for researchers, practitioners and educators to meaningfully discuss the most recent innovations, trends, and solutions for a future sustainable use and governance of marine resources under eight broad themes:
- Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture
- Marine Spatial Planning and Integrated Coastal Management
- Biodiversity conservation, Pollution and Habitat loss
- Oceans Accounting
- Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and Ocean Governance
- Co-Design, transdisciplinary research, stakeholder engagement
- Deep Sea Research
- Legal and institutional analysis of marine governance
There is a chance of submitting in a special issue of WIOMSA’s Western Indian Journal of Marine Science, so make sure to submit your abstract by June 1st. Guidelines for abstract submission are available here. Please note that you will need to submit an extended publication if you wish your paper to be considered for publication in the special edition. We will also be accepting abstracts of those who are not in a position to publish in the special edition and stakeholder (non-academic) presentations which can include policy briefs, creative stories, training manuals, fact sheets etc.
