19/03/2024 | The Klimahaus Bremerhaven is putting on a special event: seven scientists from renowned research institutes will be a "living" part of the exciting exhibition at the Klimahaus on Wednesday, April 3, 2024. Equipped with an inflatable globe and thus clearly recognisable, the experts will each be waiting for curious guests at a travel station on the journey along the eighth degree of longitude and will answer questions from inquisitive visitors about the respective country.
With short impulse talks and illustrative materials, the researchers will explain the diversity and similarities of the countries on the 8th degree of longitude, primarily focusing on their personal research interest. They will be on hand for 90 minutes at 11:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. to answer questions about biology, mangroves, polar regions and corals, among other things.
Alongside the Alfred Wegener Institute AWI and the MARUM - Center for Marine Environmental Sciences at the University of Bremen, the Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research (ZMT), the Thünen Institute of Sea Fisheries and the Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy Systems IWES from Bremerhaven will take part in the event. From ZMT, mangrove researcher Mirco Wölfelschneider and coral reef expert Dr. Annette Breckoldt will chat to Klimahaus visitors at stations in Cameroon and Samoa respectively.
"We want to offer our visitors opportunity to talk directly to people from the world of science and in turn promote their fields of research," says Dr Neele Meyer, Science Communication Officer at the Klimahaus. "As a team, we can show that we have such a broad scientific base up here in the north-west that we can cover research topics that are relevant along the entire 8th degree of longitude.
Another highlight of the event: at 4:00 p.m., a hybrid live link to the Neumayer Station in the Antarctic will provide live insights into the work of the Alfred Wegener Institute in this remote region.
Guests can also take part in a competition in which they can work on their personal knowledge with the help of the scientists.
