26/08/2020 | On September 9, 2020 at 6:00 pm, the U Bremen Research Alliance invites interested parties to a moderated online discussion on the topic "National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI): New Perspectives in Cooperative Science". The goal of the NFDI is to systematically develop, sustainably secure and give access to data from science and research, as well as connecting it (inter)nationally.
But does archiving and making data available in national and international contexts really lead to more cooperative science and an increase in knowledge?
In order to enable sustainable and highly cooperative science, it seems necessary, in addition to the multidisciplinary storage of data, to ensure international interoperability in the NFDI which increases the capacity for knowledge, contributes to the development of new research fields and generally increases scientific knowledge.
Does this mean that the perspective for the development of the NFDI lies in the "key scientific discipline" of data science, as formulated by the German Gesellschaft für Informatik? Does the exchange and combination of research data also require an ethical-philosophical discourse and, consequently, new framework guidelines?

After a welcoming address by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Bernd Scholz-Reiter (Chair of the U Bremen Research Alliance) and State Councillor Tim Cordßen (Senator for Science and Ports, Free Hanseatic City of Bremen), the above-mentioned experts from the scientific community, former members of the Council for Information Infrastructures (RFII) and representatives of the NFDI will discuss the topic. Questions and own contributions to the discussion can be posted via a chat system and will be passed on to the discussants by the moderator.
