07.11.2018 | On November 7, 2018, the Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research (ZMT) in cooperation with the Bremen Parliament invites scientists from the Leibniz Institutes in Bremen, Hamburg and Lower-Saxony to the dialogue forum “Leibniz in der Bremen Bürgerschaft”, which brings together members of the Bremen State Parliament as well as heads of departments and sections of the Senate offices.
The event is characterised by a direct exchange between politics and science, similar to the format "Leibniz in the Bundestag" and contributes to fulfilling the Leibniz Association's transfer mandate and thus to approaching solutions for social problems.
Researchers of participating Leibniz institutes exchange views with politicians on a wide range of scientific topics. The diversity of the Leibniz institutes is reflected in the subjects discussed. They cover child health in Germany, infection research in Africa, fake science and open data, origins of cultural assets and discussion series in research museums. Topics also include the exhibition of maritime cultural assets and open-air museums, social sciences as key to the sustainability problem of the oceans, material concepts for temperature resistance, or plastic pollution of the oceans.
"Central social challenges can only be mastered on the basis of knowledge. This makes dialogue formats such as ‘Leibniz in der Bremischen Bürgerschaft’ all the more important. The direct exchange of current scientific findings enriches both science and politics", says Marianne Kunkel, officer for science management at ZMT and organiser of "Leibniz in der Bremischen Bürgerschaft".
