22.3.17 | This year the annual meeting of the Deutsche Geologische Gesellschaft – Geologische Vereinigung (DGGV) and the Deutsche Mineralogische Gesellschaft (DMG) takes place in Bremen from Septmber 24 to 29 2017. The Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research (ZMT) is also taking part and resposible for organizing a session on coastal dynamics. Abstracts can be submitted until 15 June 2017.
Under the topic “The System Earth and its Materials – from Seafloor to Summit”, the conference provides a multidisciplinary stage for all researchers within the geoscientific community.
ZMT scientists Dr. Thomas Mann, PD Dr. Tim Jennerjahn, Dr. Nils Moosdorf und Dr. Alessio Rovere (ZMT/MARUM) will host a session on „Coastal Depositional Environments & Processes“.
As much of the world´s population lives close to the shoreline and, especially in the tropics, is often dependent on coastal ecosystem services, understanding the physical and biogeochemical response of coastal systems to past, present and future environmental changes is of utmost importance. The session organized by the ZMT scientists therefore seeks to combine aspects on geomorphological, hydrological, sedimentological and biogeochemical changes along the coasts – from polar regions to the tropics.
Besides the scientific sessions, invited Keynote speakers such as Prof. Dr. Sean Gulick from the University of Texas, USA, will talk about their research. Furthermore, workshops on the topics “Sklerochronology” and “Thermodynamic Modeling” are offered as well as field trips to the Rhenish Slate Mountains or the North- and Baltic seas.
The GeoBremen is jointly hosted by the Department of Geosciences (University of Bremen), MARUM – Center for Marine Environmental Sciences and the University of Bremen.
