24.01.18 | On January 15 and 16, about 30 German and Israeli partners of the ELIC initiative (Eilat Leibniz IUI Center) met at the Interuniversity Institute of Marine Sciences (IUI) in Eilat. Scientists from the Leibniz Institutes ZMT, IOW, IGB, TROPOS and LIAG, five Israeli universities (Tel Aviv, Ben Gurion, Hebrew, Bar Ilan and Haifa University), the Weizmann Institute and the Technion took part in the two-day workshop. Representatives of the BMBF office in Tel Aviv and the Desk for European Countries at Hebrew University were also present.
The workshop served as an opportunity for ELIC partners to exchange ideas and to further develop project initiatives. The focus was on the preparation of the upcoming ELIC measurement campaign in spring. The ELIC partners also made decisions on the equipment of the joint ELIC laboratory at the IUI.
The ELIC project is based on the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in 2016 between the Leibniz Association and IUI and aims to strengthen the Red Sea research cooperation between Germany and Israel in the long term.
