The Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research (ZMT) and Edition Falkenberg present the new German-language book »Klüger nutzen – besser schützen: Bremer Forschung an tropischen Küsten«.
We dream of secluded palm-lined beaches and and colourful coral reefs. Bremen's marine researchers look at the tropics more closely. In more than 30 amply illustrated essays they vividly describe the natural and societal processes in and around the communities of coral reefs, seagrass meadows and mangrove forests and analyse their vulnerability to climate change, sea level rise, excessive use and urbanisation. Ultimately the aim is to use these natural treasures sustainably and protect tropical habitats from destruction. With its broad range marine research institutes the Land Bremen has become the German focal point for tropical coastal research.
