12.12.16 | Following the successful start last year, the dialogue forum “Leibniz at the Bremen Parliament” is scheduled to take place for the second time. On 14 December 2016 scientists of the Leibniz institutes in Bremen and Lower Saxony will visit the members of the Bremen Parliament to exchange ideas with them about topics such as education and educational media, children’s health and healthy ageing, the sustainable management of tropical ecosystems, primate research and knowledge transfer. The dialogue forum is organised by the Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research (ZMT).

At “Leibniz at the Bremen Parliament”, parliament members have the opportunity to engage in personal dialogue with experts from science about topics and problems of fundamental importance. At the same time, they can get an impression of the diversity of scientific expertise of the Leibniz institutes in the region.

The scientists of the Leibniz Association present current and politically relevant research trends and results and are given the opportunity to engage in dialogue with political decision makers.

Research plays a key role in addressing social challenges, and therefore dialogue events such as “Leibniz at the Bremen Parliament” are so important. These aim to convey key scientific insights with concrete benefit for society – directly, at an early stage and to specific target groups – and thus to enrich both politics and science through dialogue. It is one of the central goals of the Leibniz Association to find answers to current socially relevant questions through encounters between science, public and politics. “Leibniz at the Bremen Parliament” contributes to this endeavour.

Dr. Bevis Fedder, head of the Office for Knowledge Exchange at the ZMT, organises the dialogue forum. “The wide range of scientific topics offered and the renewed high interest in these indicate that a continuous and multifaceted dialogue between politics and science is desired by both sides. Through our event, which we offer with the support of the Bremen Parliament, political processes can be accompanied by research in the long term,” said Dr. Fedder.

Christian Weber, president of the Bremen Parliament, welcomes the event: “Leibniz at the Bremen Parliament” – that is an enrichment for us parliamentarians at the level of communication and in the transfer of knowledge,” said President Weber.
