5.1.16 | Dr. Tim Jennerjahn, scientist at the Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research (ZMT), has been appointed as Editor-in-Chief of the journal “Estuarine, Coastal and Shelf Science”.
At the start of the year he took over the position from Dr. Eric Wolanski and is now working as one of a total of six Editors-in-Chief. For the next three years he will fulfill this role in addition to his research at the ZMT.
The magazine “Estuarine, Coastal and Shelf Science” is a well-established multi-disciplinary science journal uniting many different disciplines within marine research with a focus on estuaries, coastal zones and continental shelves. The peer-review journal is published monthly in English by Elsevier.
“Quality and relevance are my main priorities as Editor-in-Chief,“ says Dr. Jennerjahn, head of the work group Ecological Biogeochemistry at the ZMT. “The excellent review process already in place at the journal has to be maintained and we need to make sure, that in view of the large number of publications the quality remains high.”
In his new role the 52-year-old will draw from his experience working in an interdisciplinary environment at the ZMT and he will look beyond the realms of his own discipline of biogeochemistry.
“We employ a wide range of methods at our institute. In order to understand how an ecosystem works one does not only need expertise from the areas of biology or chemistry but also from geology or the social sciences. The magazine’s content will mirror the connections between different fields of research,” Dr. Jennerjahn says.
In addition to the monthly issues the new Editor-in-Chief also plans to bring out special issues of an interdisciplinary nature focusing on one particular topic.
One of the first of these publications will be a special issue on the 'ECSA 56' conference. The four-day conference is organized by Dr. Jennerjahn, the Estuarine and Coastal Sciences Association (ECSA) and Elsevier and will be held from September 4- 7, 2016 at the Maritim Hotel & Congress Center in Bremen.
