Optimizing Sea cucumber Holothuria scabra Aquaculture: A Life-Stage Approach from Diet to Nursery and Co-culture

Abstract/Summary:
Sea cucumber Holothuria scabra is a high-value tropical marine species with important ecological functions and increasing aquaculture potential. However, juvenile production remains constrained by high mortality, slow growth, and limited culture strategies during key developmental stages. This study examines effective approaches to improve H. scabra aquaculture through fermented diets for early juveniles, nursery site optimization in earthen ponds, and co-culture feasibility with abalone and macroalgae. The results highlight that stage-specific management can improve juvenile performance and support more sustainable sea cucumber aquaculture. These findings provide management strategies for tropical aquaculture development, particularly for H. scabra.
