30/01/2023 | Dr Werner Ekau, who has been a longstanding scientist at ZMT, continues his involvement with the International Ocean Institute (IOI) by joining its Board of Govenors. His appointment was confirmed in writing by Antonella Vassallo, Managing Director of the IOI headquarters in Malta, who is looking forward “to continue to build on our mutual longstanding respect for and support of the IOI and for the mission and vision of its founder Elisabeth Mann Borgese”.
As a member of the 11-strong IOI Bord of Govenors Ekau will work alongside colleagues such as IOI Honorary President Awni Behnam, renowned publisher and journalist Nikolaus Gelpke or current President Mahin Faghfouris, to name but a few.
Werner Ekau says: “I feel honoured to have been elected as member of the Governing Board of IOI and will do my best to serve IOI in the spirit of Elisabeth Mann Borgese. I am looking forward to attend the next meeting and see all my colleagues again in person.”
Fisheries biologist Werner Ekau, who retired from ZMT last year, presided over the German IOI Centre since its opening in 2002. His role as head of IOI Germany has now been taken up by Prof. Dr. Raimund Bleischwitz.
