The Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research GmbH (www.leibniz-zmt.de) is an independent research and teaching institute that provides scientific knowledge for the protection and sustainable use of tropical coastal ecosystems. Student assistant (gn)

(Reference: 18-DigiZ-Hiwi)

The Research Data Service supports ZMT scientists and tropical partners in all questions related to research data management, from planning to collection, analysis, publication and archiving of research data. The workgroup is committed to promoting the availability and visibility of research data at the ZMT. The focus of the student assistant's activities will be in supporting the content of the group's various activities.

Your tasks:

  • Support in the development and maintenance of a database for the structured collection of metadata of ZMT research data;
  • Further development and optimization of the internal metadata editor for recording metadata;
  • Further development of transfer formats between different databases using JSON schema;
  • Reviewing historical and current research data publications and recording metadata;
  • Collaboration in other research data management tasks.

Requirements:

  • Enrolment at a German university in a Bachelor's or Master's degree programme in a natural science subject, Information Technology, Data Science or comparable;
  • Good to excellent programming skills in HTML/CSS, PHP, JavaScript and Python. Knowledge of JSON Schema and SQL is an advantage;
  • Experience in the field of research data management is an advantage;
  • Ability to quickly learn new topics and tasks;
  • Very good knowledge of German and/or English;
  • Ability to work in a team, flexibility and commitment.

Details of position:

  • 35 hours/month employment (negotiable, working hours are flexible)
  • Starting as soon as possible
  • Duration: 12 months
