12.4.16 | On May 27, the Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research offers a second information day for young marine scientists, who like to find out more about careers outside of academia. The event at Bremen’s Haus der Wissenschaft will focus on jobs in industry, administration, consulting or journalism.
Experts in the different areas will give short talks (up to 20min) and insights into their own career choices and will also be available for further questions and discussions. Furthermore up to ten participants can also join the expert as at a round table for more in-depth sessions. Alumni from the ZMT will be present to talk about their careers after finishing their PhD at the institute.
The information day “Career Paths in Marine and Climate Sciences” is organised by the coordinators and PhD candidates of the five graduate school in Bremen and Oldenburg. It takes place in close cooperation with the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine research (AWI), the Center for Marine Environmental Sciences (MARUM) Max-Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology (MPI) and the Institute for Chemistry and Biology of the Marine Environment (ICBM). The “Nordwestverbund für Meeresforschung” is supporting the event financially.
“Following on from the great success of our inaugural Carreer Paths day which was attended by more than 100 PhD students, we like to continue to help students to plan for their careers after their PhD. By working closely with the marine sciences institute within the region we can use our synergies in career guidance,” says Corinna Harms, coordinator of the graduate school SUTAS at the ZMT.
