Engaging with natESM for collaborative Earth system science

Abstract: In this talk, we will introduce the natESM project, which aims to develop a cohesive, national Earth system modeling capacity to advance climate and environmental research. Our goal is to integrate Earth system components into a unified system that will be accessible to the entire scientific community, enhancing scientific productivity and resource efficiency. This ambitious project relies both on the technical expertise of our Research Software Engineers (RSEs) and the scientific knowledge and dedication of natESM community members. Together, we strive to create a world-leading, multiscale Earth system modeling framework that supports both research and operational applications. This effort not only brings together diverse German expertise but also seeks to minimize dependencies on external components, fostering a transparent and collaborative environment for innovation and shared scientific progress.
