28/06/2021 | The upcoming 10 years are crucial for a healthy ocean. The UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030) is calling for a transformative research process and placing emphasis on the importance of co-design. In cooperation with our partners we are happy to announce the online session „Co-Designing Solution-Oriented Research for Sustainable Development“ on July 8 (4pm – 5:30pm CEST). The virtual event is part of the UN Ocean Decade Laboratory “An Inspiring and Engaging Ocean” and will promote the need for a transformation in ocean science.
To advance the ocean science agenda and research partnerships for sustainable development, it will be discussed how co-design in research projects can be supported. How can partners create a common understanding and a shared vision of their research project? What are the challenges and good practices to effectively translate scientific findings into meaningful policies? How can equal, fair and ethical engagement of all relevant stakeholders before, during and after a project be ensured? What might be important when planning and implementing projects to achieve impact and sustainability?
The virtual event will explore the topic from different perspectives and highlight the importance of the co-design approach for solution-oriented research in line with the 2030 Agenda. Furthermore, it will build knowledge and practice of co-design in a more consistent and coordinated way to support collaboration and science-to-policy uptake. Participants will learn, discuss and share experiences about collaborative and participative research and better integration of diverse knowledge systems, disciplines, sectors and stakeholders.
