22/11/2019 | In cooperation with the Bremen Parliament, the Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research invited scientist and parliamentarians to take part in "Leibniz at the Bremische Bürgerschaft". The dialogue forum took place for the fourth time and saw scientists from Leibniz institutes in Bremen, Hamburg and Lower Saxony in exchanging knowledge with members of the Bremen Parliament as well as representatives from Senate departments.
Modelled on "Leibniz at the Bundestag", research results and their benefits for society are communicated directly to the members of the Bremen Parliament. This encounter between science and politics contributes to fulfilling Leibniz Association's transfer mandate and to finding solutions to societal problems.
The researchers of the participating Leibniz Institutes exchanged views with politicians on a wide range of scientific questions and study results. This year's topics ranged from physical activity in everyday life/old age, to groundwater in times of climate change, provenance research, the dangers of ammunition on the seafloor, the relevance of tropical research or a news app for Bremen.
Scientists from the following institutions took part:
Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research (ZMT), Bremen
Leibniz Institute for Prevention Research and Epidemiology (BIPS), Bremen
German Maritime Museum (DSM), Bremerhaven
Leibniz Institute for Applied Geophysics (LIAG), Hannover
Leibniz Institute for Media Research | Hans Bredow Institute (HBI), Hamburg
