The Equal Opportunities Representative (at ZMT: Women’s and Equal Opportunities Representative) in Germany is a person or a position within a company or institution, who is concerned with the advancement and implementation of equal opportunities and gender mainstreaming, taking responsibility for internal measures at his/her institution or company.
The Leibniz Association follows the research-oriented gender mainstreaming standards of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG). The equal opportunities representatives of all Leibniz institutes have a platform for regular exchange, the Equal Opportunities and Diversity Working Group (AKCD) (AKCD). The spokespersons of the AKCD are representatives from all divisions. The guidelines developed by this working group („Leitfaden für Chancengleichheit in der Leibniz-Gemeinschaft“) provides an overview of the basics of gender mainstreaming and the available equal opportunities measures. Once a year, the Leibniz Association organises the „Jahrestagung Chancengleichheit“ on currently important and new issues.
In addition to the work of the Women’s and Equal Opportunities Representative, ZMT supports diverse measures towards implementing a good Work-Life-Balance for its employees. This supportive approach and family-conscious human resource policy was honoured in 2018 with the certificate of audit berufundfamilie.
In 2022, ZMT has been revising and developing the focus of its gender equality work, including a new Gender Equality Action Plan (GEAP@ZMT), which meets the criteria of a gender equality plan. You can read more about the GEAP here: https://www.leibniz-zmt.de/en/marine-tropics-research/gender-equality-at-zmt.html.
